Sharon Osbourne is reflecting on her exit from The Talk a year after she left the show over comments she made defending her friend Piers Morgan. Osbourne — who parted ways with the CBS talk show in March 2021 over controversial comments she made on air — said she is returning to TV with her new show, also titled The Talk, because she “didn’t want it to end my career in such an ugly way.”
During a conversation with Morgan on his Fox Nation series Piers Morgan Uncensored, Osbourne said she felt “untouchable” after leaving CBS’ The Talk last year, per Yahoo Entertainment. Osbourne exited the talk show with a $10 million payout after she defended Morgan’s comments about Meghan Markle and was accused of being racially insensitive.
Osbourne said she was angered by cancel culture, telling Morgan, “what makes me so mad is I’m in a blessed situation that, no matter whatever happens to my career, my husband [Ozzy Osbourne] will always take care of me. But what happens to a person that, you know, say I didn’t have a husband and I had kids to bring up, right? What happens to people like that, that are canceled or fired because they’ve… used the wrong term or something’s taken out of context? And they’re fired? To the average person, what happens to that person?”
She added that her exit from The Talk “was tough” and affected her “mentally,” telling Morgan, “Did I want my legacy for my family to be: ‘Oh, well, your Nana was on television, but everybody said she was racist, so she never went on television again?’”
When asked by Morgan if she felt suicidal after leaving The Talk, Osbourne said no, explaining, “I didn’t want to give CBS the satisfaction.”
Osbourne’s comments come after she claimed in a DailyMailTV interview that she underwent ketamine treatment and therapy to deal with the trauma of leaving the show. She told the outlet, “I went through three months of therapy. I had ketamine treatment and I got it all out. All the tears and everything that I felt, you know. All of that, it’s gone.”
After leaving The Talk, Osbourne was replaced by actor Jerry O’Connell. Osbourne — who is in full support of her replacement — told the DailyMailTV that O’Connell sent her a kind message after he joined the show.
“You know how this industry works — nothing’s forever and everyone’s replaceable,” she said. “Everyone.”
