A frustrated Caitlin Clark didn’t hold back in voicing her frustrations with the WNBA referees after her Indiana Fever fell to the Seattle Storm on Thursday night.
Despite another strong performance by Caitlin Clark last night, the Fever lost 103-88, extending their losing streak to three in the process. With the defeat, Indiana is now 1-8 heading into Saturday’s afternoon home tilt against the Chicago Sky.
Through the first two weeks of the 2024 WNBA season, plenty of fans and analysts have noticed a stunning amount of clear-cut fouls by opposing players on Caitlin Clark that have gone uncalled.
On Thursday, Clark finally addressed the non-calls and expressed frustration with the officiating, per Dominic Miranda of WTHR:
“I feel like I’m getting hammered. I appreciate (head coach) Christie (Sides) getting a tech. I just…I don’t know.”
Christie Sides was issued a technical foul after confronting the officials about a non-call on a play in which Clark drove to the basket. The replays show that Clark was clearly fouled and should have been awarded a pair of free throws.
Clark finished the night with 20 points, three rebounds, nine assists (her single-game best) and one block. Clark was 3-of-8 from beyond the arc and made all five of her free throws.
Through her first nine WNBA games, the 22-year-old Clark is averaging 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.
The first overall pick of this year’s draft is shooting 32.0 percent from downtown.
Caitlin Clark & Indiana Look To Bounce Back Tomorrow
The three-game homestand has not been kind to the Fever so far, but they’ll try to salvage it tomorrow afternoon when Chicago comes to town.
Saturday will mark the first of four regular season meetings between Indiana and Chicago. The Sky (3-3) occupy the No. 8 seed and final playoff spot, but the Fever can quickly gain ground if they can secure the season series vs. Angel Reese and company.
