Kelsey Plum Made Her Opinion of Kate Martin Extremely Clear

On Saturday afternoon, WNBA rookie Kate Martin made her regular-season debut — recording her first on-court minutes as a member of the Las Vegas Aces.

Through 26 minutes, Martin recorded three points, three assists and five rebounds. The No. 18 overall pick also notched a big-time block in the Aces’ 89-82 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.

After the game, WNBA superstar Kelsey Plum was asked to discuss Martin’s impact in this closely-contested win.

“Kate Money Martin…I love that kid!” Plum said.

Martin, a former Iowa star and teammate of Caitlin Clark, impressed through training camp and preseason with the reigning WNBA champs. Her impressive play earned her a final roster spot, and now some meaningful minutes.

Plum lauded Martin earlier this year as well.

“Kate Martin is awesome. Kate Martin picks up things so quickly, she’s an amazing sponge,” Plum said. “I think Becky nicknamed her Kate ‘Money’ Martin. I think that’s gonna stick.

“And when I say ‘money,’ it’s not just about scoring and stuff, she’s just in the right place at the right time. She just makes people better. And that’s what Becky values, that’s what our coaching staff values and that’s why she’s gonna be a great asset to our team.”

The Aces are now 2-0 to start the season.

Fans Express Concerns Over Caitlin Clark’s Mental Health Ahead of WNBA Debut

Caitlin Clark’s rise to fame has been nothing short of unprecedented. She’s one of the most popular athletes on the planet right now, and she has yet to even play in her first WNBA game. Clark and the Indiana Fever begin the 2024 WNBA regular season on Tuesday vs. the Connecticut Sun. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2. ESPN is planning a WNBA-Finals like production to cover all angles of Clark’s debut. It’s yet another sign of how Clark is impacting the WNBA.

Amid all the attention Clark is getting, fans are raising concerns about her mental health and well being. Being famous has its perks. But at just 22 years old, it’s fair to be worried about the WNBA star and whether or not she’ll be able to handle the pressure over the longterm. In ESPN’s Full Court Press series, Clark admits that she sometimes wishes she was “normal” because all the attention and press can be draining all too often. “There’s days when you don’t want to talk to everyone,” Clark said. “But somebody comes up to you and this is there 10-second interaction with you so you better smile and be kind.

Caitlin Clark seems to be handling all the pressure well so far. But with her fame expected to rise in the coming months, fans are expressing concerns about her mental health. Hopefully, the Indiana Fever find ways to protect and take care of her.

Life as a celebrity comes with plenty of cons, but the pros often make it worth it. With that being said, we’re sending our best to Clark. After all, she’s only 22 years old. Clark officially begins her WNBA career this Tuesday when the Fever take on the Sun.
