NBA Victor Wembanyama to Spurs
NBA (DR)

Monstrous this season, Victor Wembanyama amazed everyone and therefore ended his rookie campaign with some awards. But he missed one of them, making him a unique case in almost half a century.

When you leave behind a first NBA season as incredible as Victor Wembanyama’s, it’s obvious that you leave with some distinctions in your pocket.

The Frenchman quickly made it clear that no one in his squad could keep up with his cruising speed and it was therefore without much surprise that he was unanimously elected Rookie of the Year. But the pivot did not stop there.

Best blocker in the league from his first steps in the league, the former Mets is already considered one of the most terrifying racket totems on the planet. He therefore finished second in the votes for the DPOY and within the first All-Defensive Team…

On the other hand, the doors to the All-NBA Teams remained closed to him. Enough to “allow” the Spurs nugget to write history again, despite itself.

Historical and… justified snob for Victor Wembanyama?

Victor Wembanyama this season: 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.6 blocks per game. The first player in 45 years to shoot 20/10/3/3 and not end up on an All-NBA Team.

On paper, the absence of Wemby among the three major fives in the league can therefore be controversial. But that would still be forgetting a crucial detail: victories play a certain role and in fact, Spurs have only won 22 this season for 60 defeats.

However, those who were nominated in his place are all far from having such a bad collective record. Suffice to say that the fans don’t have too much of a problem with that.

He plays on one of the 5 worst teams in the league, wins count when you want to be an All-NBA player

How many of these players have won fewer than 25 games?

Victor Wembanyama’s biggest fans can rest assured, he will be entitled to a nomination for an All-NBA Team in the years to come. Provided that his Spurs start winning more matches of course because otherwise, even his crazy performances could prove insufficient.
